I am a beloved wife, a mother, a follower of Jesus, a student of the Bible, a bibliophile, a homeschooler, a freelance writer, a copy editor, a history buff, and a cat-owned family historian.
In October 2014, we left suburbia near Seattle for the rural life of picturesque Whidbey Island, Washington, and live with our two children, three cats, and a rescue dog.
In 2016, as a follower of Christ, I had become more aware that all believers should be sharing the gospel with this hurting world.
For most of my life, I’ve considered evangelism not my gift and something for others to do. At age 17 and age 21, I worked as a summer camp counselor, but I felt unsuccessful. So, I chose to live a Christian life before others, believing St. Francis of Assisi that one doesn’t need to use words and that people would ask why I’m different.
Well, that hasn’t happened. I lived in the same house for 23 years, and none of my neighbors asked me about my beliefs. I do need to use words.
During the 2015-16 school year, I attended a Training for Trainers (based on T4T: A Discipleship ReRevolution by Steve Smith with Ying Kai) group to learn how to better share my faith. It gave me confidence and convinced me that my testimony was worth sharing.
I’ve been a believer for over 40 years. I’m ready to teach. I feel I’m full of information that I need to share with others. The word of God can’t be trapped in the stagnant Dead Sea but needs to flow like the Jordan River.
In addition to evangelism and discipleship, I desire to help believers in Christ to develop a biblical worldview and to look at our culture through this lens.
God has gifted me as a writer, and I can draw from my years of Bible study, my major in English, and my minor in Political Science to address my topics of interest.
Therefore, I seek to disciple and encourage others in their faith through this blog. This doesn’t take me off the hook from face-to-face evangelism or discipleship, but it gives me another avenue.
For years, I’ve been told that it’s okay to not be involved in ministry when I’m busy raising and homeschooling kids. It’s not the right season for me. But in spring 2016, God brought this verse to mind:
“preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction” (2 Timothy 4:2 NASB).
In season and out of season, I’m to share God’s gospel and disciple others. I may not have time to hang out in a coffee shop, but I can hang out in the blogosphere anytime. I pray that this blog will honor the Lord.
